A1 Superior Homes Improvement for all your door and window needs!

I want to install new doors and windows on my home. Do I really need a contractor, or can I just do it myself?

It might seem like something as basic as putting in new windows or replacing a door would be a simple, DIY task. The truth is there’s more to the job than just measuring and installing that new door or window.

Even newer houses can have issues with the foundation settling, potentially altering the fit of a window or how easily a door opens or closes. In an older home, like the one I grew up in, these problems are more common and can be compounded by the presence of older, now non-standard-sized windows and doors.

Imagine wanting to replace the upstairs windows in your home only to find that they are no longer made. As a young boy, I experienced that very scenario in my parents’ house. Our home was built in the early 20th century. The upstairs bedrooms had small, floor-level windows of an unusual design. No hardware store in our area carried that size window, making a simple replacement project a major headache!

For the DIY enthusiast, these complications are often unexpected and can be costly in both money and time. A professional contractor will have the skill to identify these problems before the project begins and the training and specialty tools to correct them, saving time and money.
